Heroes Take Their Stands

The Silkroad Ensemble

“To live successfully in a cosmopolitan society, we must develop skills to see another’s culture as our own.”

– Ahmad Sadri, folklorist

“Heroes” consists of five new multi-media commissions from artists around the world. Each composer uses a hero from history to tell the story of their moral sacrifice through the emotional prism of music. A US tour five years in the making.

Composers Colin Jacobsen, Kayhan Kalhor, Kaoru Watanabe, Wu Man, Jason Moran, and Pauchi Sasaki have incorporated dance, shadow puppetry, video, and sound design into their compositions for the Grammy-award winning Silkroad Ensemble, celebrating their 20th year with their biggest project yet.

As in all of Silkroad’s work, Heroes explores habits fundamental to living in a democratic society and an inclusive world: curiosity, empathy, and collaboration.
