• BACH’S ART OF FUGUE

A playful look inside the master’s final work

What’s a fugue when it’s at home?

An academic exercise? A place for show-offs? A relic of the past?

Bach’s last expression of his genius is opened from within to illuminate the finest musical brain in history.

Four actors use scatological scenes to give hints to the audience as to how to listen to the next fugue.

Laurence Cummings leads a taut cast of nine in a new staged production aimed at inviting new audiences to engage with Bach’s densest language.

Commissioned by The Academy of Ancient Music for touring in 2025, Bach’s Art of Fugue is a new work of concert-theatre designed for early music ensembles everywhere.
